Hello, I'm trying to reinstall KAOS while doing my own partitioning:
GPT because my mobo use UEFI
sdb 8 0 465.8G 0 disk
├─sdb1 8 0 190M 0 part /boot (ext2)
├─sdb2 8 0 134.8G 0 part /home (ext4)
├─sdb3 8 0 25.4G 0 part / (ext4)
├─sdb4 8 0 200M 0 part (not used)
├─sdb5 8 0 5.7G 0 part
└─sdb6 8 0 299.6G 0 part (ntfs for non linux storage - no os)
there's a 10mb gap between first partition and start of disk to allow grub to embed itself.
Calamares runs the installation all the way to the end and gives this error:
I got this error whether I choose embed in mba or install in boot partition
I'm attaching a zip file that has all the logs you've asked for: calamares.log, sysinfo from octopi. I don't see a attach function on this forum, so I've uploaded the zip to mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/download/gvl8c2g13t5e22h/logs_screenshots.zip
I'm using a usb stick instead of DVD. ImageWriter didn't work for me and I tried on on several different pcs and os and different usb sticks. It just never saw the usb sticks. Instead I used ImageUSB which writes the iso to USB bit to bit as does imagewriter (it verified the stick after it was done and I had verified the hash of the iso after download). If you're curious ImageUSB can be found here: http://download.cnet.com/ImageUSB/3000-2192_4-75338329.html
I've also tried installing grub from konsole. in and out of chroot. I then went back to this forum and followed your tutorial on chroot and installing grub from scratch on already existing installation. I've also included a transcript of all these konsole sessions in the zip file.
It pretty much had the same result:
[root@localhost /]# sudo grub-install /dev/sdb
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: warning: this GPT partition label contains no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible.
grub-install: warning: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged..
grub-install: error: will not proceed with blocklists.
except when I tried sudo grub-install /dev/sdb1 where it told me, it can't embed in a ext2 directory.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
