I installed Postgresql from the repo and have rebooted several times. The database does not appear to auto-start as it does for other repos. It does have an entry in /run
[roland@i7-desktop boinc]$ ls /run
avahi-daemon/ log/ NetworkManager/ saslauthd/ udev/ dmeventd-server|
cups/ lvm/ nscd/ sddm/ udisks2/ utmp
dbus/ mount/ postgresql/ sudo/ user/
initramfs/ mpd/ resolvconf/ systemd/ uuidd/
lock/ mysqld/ samba/ tmpfiles.d/ dmeventd-client|
But does not start.
[roland@i7-desktop boinc]$ psql
psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
This one's rather critical. I wrote a Qt based expense tracker many years ago to replace a Lotus Approach expense tracker I had written many years prior. OS/2 went bye bye and SmartSuite 98 was rather iffy under Wine. The Qt one isn't as nice and fancy as the Approach one was, but, it is serviceable. It was a lot nicer until Apple screwed the pooch by switching CUPS from PostScript to PDF. Unless they fixed it recently PDF creation only works for a single page in Qt. Now I have to generate an ASCII file and run an a2-something to generate the PDF to print. Sigh . . . I miss my 24-pin dot matrix with green bar and raw ASCII files, especially at tax time.
