Hello!
I got a new system at work with the following hardware:
- AMD Ryzen 7 1700
- Asus Prime B350-Plus
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080Ti
- Western Digital Black NVMe 512GB SSD
and I encountered several issues during installation, some of which are for sure not KaOS specific. I used the latest KaOS 2017.07 image and created a bootable USB stick using the KaOS included image writer.
- Installer/Live environment does not load at all meaning at some point the display stops getting updates. I'm sure this is driver/Nvidia specific since I tried several OS (Fedora 26, Ubuntu 17.04, KaOS) and DEs, but thank god for the nonfree option in KaOS 😉
- Even before the Live environment or Calamares appears I get this error
After clicking okay I can login as user live with password live.
- I encountered this on my other installation too but didn't think much of it. Now that I did several installations this may be an issue. On the first boot, this includes the live session in issue 2 as well, the input box on the login window is selected but whatever password I type in, it is wrong. It appears as if no user is selected at all for login, but am asked for a password anyways.
- Installing on the NVMe disc fails using the delete drive option, this may have to do with XFS. That bug report sounds similar but I didn't look further into it. The installation hangs at the XFS partition creation, here are the logs (mixed with German, sorry)
- Do I begin a second installation after a canceled/finished first try, Calamares does not start and hangs with a message about storage space, here are the logs
- I then tried to do a manual installation and use BTRFS for the main partition, but that installation failed too. Calamares did finish but after a reboot the boot files were missing. This may have been due to a wrong partition scheme or missing flag, but here are the install logs anyways
- I then tried a legacy boot and standard installation (deleting the drive) but that didn't work either, logs
What finally did work was the manual partitioning and using ext4 on the main partition (efi boot), here are the logs (if of importance).
On another note: On my private system (HP Probook 455 g4 with AMD APU) I cannot select the legacy boot for KaOS, but since Fedora 26 doesn't work either, I did not escalate this during the 2017.07 test cycle.
