Lately, I keep getting this error message when I boot my laptop:

Firmware Bug TSC_Deadline disabled due to Errata, please update microcode to version 0xb2 or later.

I am in no way tech-savvy, but this is the conversation from the terminal:

[root@karibou snowdust]# dmesg | grep microcode
[ 0.000000] [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0xb2 (or later)
[ 0.728463] microcode: sig=0x406e3, pf=0x80, revision=0x33
[ 0.728655] microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.`

Again from the terminal, here are my laptop specs:

Thanks for your help.

Possible you did start seeing this since around the end of November? If so then it probably is the new microcode, 20171117.
Does it affect your system any further then this warning? Do you have a kernel in your cache prior to linux 4.13.12? That one would contain an older intel-ucode, thus older microcode.

    Demm, thanks for your reply.

demm Possible you did start seeing this since around the end of November?

Yes, on November 14th/17, I downloaded and installed the newly released Kaox-Iso.

demm If so then it probably is the new microcode, 20171117

Well, I don't know. But I searched Octopi, and discovered intel-ucode 20171117-1 and noticed that it was not installed. Should I install this intel-ucode version?

demm Does it affect your system any further then this warning?

I don't think so. My system is very responsive except when I shutdown.

demm Do you have a kernel in your cache prior to linux 4.13.12?

Well as stated, this installation was done with the November ISO. Or maybe I do not understand your question.
    Thanks for enlightening me.

microcode is build into the kernel in KaOS, so the intel-ucode package is ONLY used for kernel building, no use or need to install.
If you installed with the the November ISoO then it is a no for having an older kernel in your cache.

You could try adding the linux-next kernel to your install, see if that fixes the warning.

Microcode loading is only during start-up, so can't be related to any shut-down hang. Logs needed from a shutdown when you have such a hang.

Thanks demm for your reply and for clarifying the situation. Not being tech-savvy makes me an unlikely candidate for experimenting with the linux-next kernel. Yes, I read the document you linked to, but I don't want to break my system. I like it very much the way it is. I will wait for the next update, that could solve this issue.

RE: shutdown hang: the thing is that when I click K in the bottom left corner and select shutdown, this is when the desktop becomes unresponsive and stays that way until the taskbar (panel) disappear, then I am able to shutdown.
At first I thought it was caused by the Dashboard, so I tested with the other 2 menu launcher alternatives ... no dice, same results. Thanks for such a lovely KaOS.
