mrcrowley Do you think that the problems after the login start are because of missing grub installation option with Calamares ???
If you install in msdos/bios-legacy, it won't be a problem; grub and all the other things necessay will be in installer.
But if you want to install KaOS in gpt/uefi but using grub, you will need to install install efibootmgr, efivar and grub and select your $esp as /boot/efi (not /boot).
Since your KaOS installtion is in msdos/bios-legacy, there should be no problem (unless you booted up installer in uefi).
Hope this is clear. I have (test) installed KaOS in bios-legacy (grub), uefi (default systemd-boot) and uefi in grub.
(And I can also run it in rEFInd).
