Following the KDE Wiki, I set the window manager variable in ~/.config/plasma-workspace/env/
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE
# cat .config/plasma-workspace/env/set_window_manager.sh
export KDEWM=/usr/local/bin/awesome
I can't identify logs for the problem as technically awesome does execute. By observation upon login the Awesomewm will show for less than a sec however something else is executing and creatings the standard plasma overlay. As a result, my mouse clicks are grabbed by the plasma environment but my keyboard doesn't.
