Download KaOS_Test
First, minimal test ISO is uploaded for the February stable ISO release.
This ISO features an updated kernel again, issues were found for why updating was not possible for the January release.
Big change is the move to Plasma 5.24 (beta on this first ISO, 5.24 final is not released yet) and with it the test to move to Wayland as default. nVidia (non-free) will not run Wayland automatic yet, it will fallback to an X session.
New is also systemd (first ISO using 250, there were some earlier issues, that is why just now moving to 250 for this ISO), the toolchain is redone with all the latest commits for GCC 11 branch & Glibc 2.33 branch (included multiple CVE fixes)

As always, early test ISOs are minimal, very few apps, just a web-browser, file manager, text editor, GUI package manager. The non-free Nvidia drivers are included since they are a big part of what needs testing.

Plan is to have Frameworks 5.91.0, KDE Applications 21.12.2, Plasma 5.24.0 and Linux 5.15.19 on the final ISO.

The ISO is using packages from the build & kde-next repo, but those repos is not enabled, so if you decide to install, make sure to add the kde-next & build repo to your pacman.conf.

Debug packages for Calamares are part of all ISOs, run Calamares with gdb if you encounter errors.
provide the installation log, if you encounter any issue at all

You can start Calamares from the Welcome app, or run it with:

sudo calamares -d

The install log will be created in the home directory of the Live user, see ~/installation.log. It is available after the install in the target system in /var/log/installation.log
If run from cli, make sure to pastebin the full output, since no installation.log will be copied then, though that log is more complete.

Known issues:

  • No known issues at this time

This first ISO has a major bug, exposing a flaw it seems in Plasma 5.24 (we'll have to wait for other distro's starting to use 5.24 to get it confirmed).
During the install, Plasma is triggering an auto-mount of the target partitions, thus causing the the install to fail during the create partitions install phase.
This can be prevented by disabling automount. Systemsettings > Removable Storage > Removable Devices > untick On Attach. Do this prior to starting the installer.
Another issue found is in the kf5user module, it will fail due to a missed Wayland session change.

Both will be fixed in a new minimal ISO, will be out tomorrow.

Second minimal ISO up.
The auto-mount issue is fixed, so is the k5user module fail.
The kernel has moved to 5.15.21. Gstreamer packages moved to a major new version, 1.20. Some tests were done to move from wpa_supplicant to iwd as default wireless connection daemon (iwd system service is enabled on this ISO), but not working properly yet for most systems, so not enabled fully.
This should be the final minimal ISO, first full ISO will be up tomorrow or Wednesday.

A new full ISO was needed, major reason was updated gpgme, it causes several issues with encryption (for example, if kmail contains encrypted email it was crashing.
The kernel received some critical updates to, so the latest is now included, linux 5.15.23.
Lots of updates since last ISO, including new mesa, glib2, linux-firmware, mariadb, postgresql, nano, iana-etc, qpdf and new intel microcode.

One more new full ISO, this time not because there were issues, but simply because there are too many updates.
Makes very little sense to release an ISO that will have about 150 outdated packages within 2 days of the release. Main updates are the monthly Qt5 patch releases and Frameworks 5.91.0
