I think what @amsk98 may be trying to convey is that a bootable USB flash drive using the current ISO doesn't boot all the way into the desktop environment. That has been my experience, anyway.
After downloading https://sourceforge.net/projects/kaosx/files/ISO/KaOS-2022.06-x86_64.iso, I verified the SHA256SUM and completed the recommended GPG authenticity verification. I then wrote it to a USB flash drive with dd
. When I boot from the USB flash drive using the defaults (i.e., just let it run from the boot loader without selecting any options), the boot process seems to hang after a message like this:
[ 8.580019][ T186][ systemd[186]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-gpt-auto-generator failed with exit status 1.
If I try again but on the boot loader screen edit Boot Options to systemd.show_status=1
(instead of the default 0
), then I see that boot hangs after showing me this message:
Finished Record Runlevel Change in UTMP
I can Ctrl-Alt-F2 to a console and log in as live
to look at logs. When I do that, the output of journalctl -b -p err
is this:
Jun 29 15:43:05 localhost systemd[188]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-gpt-auto-generator failed with exit status 1.

I can download a previous ISO from https://sourceforge.net/projects/kaosx/files/Archive/KaOS-2022.04-x86_64.iso, verify that, write it to a USB flash drive, and get that to boot to the DE, and I suppose that I could then just sudo pacman -Syu
to upgrade (as recommended at https://kaosx.us/pages/download/), but that still doesn't resolve the issue with the current ISO (at least as I [and possibly @amsk98] seem to be experiencing it), and that may prompt potential new users to give up trying.
