Download KaOS_Test

First, minimal test ISO is uploaded for the July stable ISO release.

This is a first ISO that has support to install with the new bcachefs filesystem. Don't expect too much form it yet, no configuration (needed like with btrfs & zfs) are inclded yet, but you can get a working bcachefs install, when you select the option in manual partitioning (Calamares).
The all new nvidia 555 driver should have much better (or even, complete) wayland support, so it will be nice to get some extra testers with nvidia cards to see if switching to wayland as default for newer cards is now an option.
Of course, plasma 6.1 is on this ISO, among the many, many updates since the May ISO

As always, early test ISOs are minimal, very few apps, just a web-browser, file manager, text editor, GUI package manager. The non-free Nvidia drivers are included since they are a big part of what needs testing, especially the move to 550 will need attention from those who have the hardware to test this driver.

Plan is to have Frameworks 6.4.0, KDE Applications 24.05.2, Plasma 6.1.3 and Linux 6.9.xx on the final ISO.

The ISO is using packages from the build repo, but that repo is not enabled, so if you decide to install, make sure to add the build repo to your pacman.conf.

Debug packages for Calamares are part of all ISOs, run Calamares with gdb if you encounter errors.
provide the installation log, if you encounter any issue at all

You can start Calamares from the Welcome app, or run it with:

sudo calamares -d

The install log will be created in the home directory of the Live user, see ~/installation.log. It is available after the install in the target system in /var/log/installation.log
If run from cli, make sure to pastebin the full output, since no installation.log will be copied then, though that log is more complete.

On this ISO you will find:
Linux 6.8.11
systemd 253.21
gcc 13.2.0
Qt 6.7.2
Frameworks 6.3.0
Plasma 6.1.2
KDE Applications 24.05.1
Calamares 3.3.7
Octopi 0.16.1 with sysinfo & cachecleaner tool

Known issues:

  • The bottom progress-bar in Calamares reacts to mouse clicks & opens a virtualkeyboard (narrow)

Second minimal ISO is uploaded.
Since no new issues found, it was time to update the kernel for the upcoming stable ISO too, so you will find linux 6.9.8 on this ISO.
KDE Apps 24.05.2 was released two days, so that is now also included. Besides some more updated packages are there no further changes.
Testing a somewhat older Nvidia card (1060), shows that even with nvidia 555, wayland is still not an option, probably only possible with much newer cards, so for non-free X11 will stay default.

Second full ISO is up, this should be the final ISO for the July release.
A nasty bug was found in kio6 6.4.0, that prevented Dolphin from really working and Plasma 6.1.3 was released yesterday, thus one more full ISO needed.
Expect this ISO to be released as next stable tomorrow or Friday (if no new bugs are found).
