Hello everyone,
I recently installed KaOS as my primary OS after hearing great things about its simplicity and focus on KDE and Qt applications. So far, I'm loving the clean experience and the performance boost compared to other distributions. However, I want to ensure I optimize it for my specific development workflow, and I was hoping to get advice from the community here.
Here’s a bit about my setup and what I’m trying to achieve:
Primary Work: Full-stack web development (Node.js, Python/Django, and some React).
Tools I Use: VS Code, Docker, Git, and some lighter IDEs like KDevelop for C++ projects.
Hardware: I’m on a mid-range laptop with 16GB RAM, an i7 processor, and an SSD.
My Questions:
System Optimization: Are there any tweaks or tools specific to KaOS that can enhance resource usage and make development smoother? For instance, system-level optimizations to improve performance while running Docker containers or heavier tasks.
Software Availability: I noticed KaOS focuses on curated packages, which I like. However, sometimes I need libraries or tools not available in the default repositories. What’s the best practice for managing this—should I look at AppImages, Flatpak, or another method?
Docker Performance: Does anyone here use Docker extensively on KaOS? I’d love to hear if you faced challenges setting it up or if there are any tricks to optimize container performance.
I appreciate any insights, tips, or links to existing discussions or resources. I’m also happy to contribute back to the community as I refine my setup.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Regards
