Hey everyone, I just would like to introduce myself.

I'm lozenge, a long time linux user. I started off when I was a teenager with debian, and have tried almost every distro. I've mainly stuck with Ubuntu (I'm slightly ashamed of this) and have used it since pre-release but occasionally switch back and forth between Ubuntu and openSUSE.

I currently am running 3 computers. A mac pro with 2 xeons running Snow Leopard, Windows 7 (which I only use for my work in the music production industry since I quit gaming,) I also run Ubuntu 14.04 on this machine. I have an old AMD64 on my desk for chatroom purposes only which I also run Ubuntu on. And I have my Thinkpad t61 which dual boots Ubuntu and Kali linux. (I'm gonna post the following picture of my desk I took during my Ubuntu upgrades a couple days ago so you get the idea of how I roll)

Anyway now to the point:

I was checking out distro watch last night and came across KaOS. I started reading about it and it instantly pulled me in. I was suprised to see it's not ranked in the top 100 yet but than again it's a young distro. A mix of the beautiful interface and the simple stance on software it goes by really cought my attention. Also the fact that it is originally a fork of Arch that went independent and uses Pacman.

So today I logged into to twm to free RAM and installed it on VirtualBox:

Needless to say it was everything I hoped it would be. Normally I am not a fan of KDE (especially plasma.) Sometimes I go wm and de crazy after a fresh install of linux and make the mistake of installing KDE which always breaks things on my debian based distros. It also runs awefully. But KaOS handles it with such an elegance that I wouldn't have expected.

For the first time since I was a teenager I have been intrigued enough to want to join a linux community again (I used to hang out on distro forums and IRC channels many years ago, but it no longer interested me.)

I think soon I will be replacing Ubuntu with KaOS on at least one of my machines.

Glad to be a part of this! I know this distro is going places :)

Welcome to KaOS, nice to see such a complete introduction :)

But first of some corrections, KaOS was never a fork or based on Arch, no idea why DistroWatch made up that story, but since it is such a common question to come up, it has been added to the FAQ a while ago:

KaOS started as an independent distro exactly one year ago, there was nothing before that. It can't be listed on the top 100 page ranking on DW, since it was just accepted yesterday to their database, so just one day of clicks that count (it actually was accepted surprisingly fast, 5 months waiting list is very short for an independent, small distro).

Honestly this makes me like it more. It's nice to see independent distros that makes sense. and I think pacman was a great choice for this as well

KaOS is running flawlessly on my laptop. I am enjoying this experience and will be sticking with KaOS
