Forums are a two way street, they are not about "consuming" what YOU need, but a way of having users help each other. When you posted, others took the time to answer and give (potential) valuable advice, info, answers that can be usefull to many more then just you. Removing accounts takes away the consistancy of a forum, post inexplicably missing, no idea who might have placed a post, etc. Therefore most forums do not terminate accounts, unless it is banning a spammer.
Your account is set to inactive, since it seems to be such an issue for you to have an active account here.....
This is an exception, new rules to join the forum will be setup, making it clear, administers will not waste their time going through settings of users, checking posts, etc, just bc someone changed their mind, or "consumed" the things they needed from this forum.
am in the same boat as ewolnux. have a brother printer and cant use it with Kaos(have mentioned this in the past too).
tried the cloud print option of printer but that doesn't seem to work consistently. as much as i don't want to move away from Kaos am forced to use Manjaro (closest Arch'ish KDE distro).i also have another AMD APU desktop and cant use non-free versions of drivers since Kaos does not package catalyst drivers(and didn't have a pleasant experience with free version- issues with effects/slow repainting etc).
also, once in a while i end up needing to use some AUR packages (Teamviewer,Docker etc) and in this case i need to package it with KCP (not too savvy at it).
for me as of now, i switch between Manjaro and Kaos.
Non of this should be new or a surprise. KaOS does not state anywhere it is a distro for everyone, home page makes it very clear it is for a limited audience, FAQ shows exactly what is provided and what not, so when you sign up for a forum account, it is presumed you read at least some of what this distro is about, plus, users distro-hop all the time, that doesn't mean administrators constantly add and remove accounts of hoppers that change their mind.
@ ewolnux & illuchaoo7
I also have a Brother multi-functional printer (DCP-7060D). The basic problem here is with Brother as they do not release 64-bit printer drivers, only recently have they made 64-bit scanner drivers and 32-bit generic drivers available. Have a quick look on their web site. I faced the same dilemma: either keep running KaOS or install another distribution. Since I own 1 Intel core 2 duo desktop and 1 Intel i5-3570K desktop, my best options were:
a) to keep running KaOS on my newer Intel i5 desktop
b) as SolydK includes both i386 and amd64 architectures, to run SolydK 64-bit on the Intel core 2 duo desktop and connect my printer-scanner which is supported and works fine.
Hope this helps.
@demm : have been following the site for sometime now and am aware of target audience for the distro.my mention was only to echo the fact that while the distro is liked by all, it would be great to address standard use cases around printers(have no opinion around active/inactive accounts and i wasnt trying to answer to that).
@snowdust brother printer is wifi only.(mfc-j625dw)..i should use my desktop(manjaro) to connect to printer and share it to network for use by my kaos laptop..maybe that would work..
There are far more standard use cases for lib32 then printers, still won't make any difference :) lib32 will NOT be part of KaOS.
I have enjoyed KaOS, but need my Canon MP640 to work. I'll probably be back when I get a new printer. Bye.
All printers works with cups on all Unixes, like Linux and OSX. This file is a printer driver for Canon IJ printers.
Cups could not see my USB printer. I already had the driver from previous installations, but simply could not get the printer to work in a non-32bit environment, despite hours of effort. In the KDE 5 distro I migrated to it took 3 clicks to get the printer working. Still sad to have left, though, because I admire the KaOS ethic.
When push usb stick open konsole and copy result of dmesg | tail -f
Why not just Dual boot, and have a shared /Home or some other folder?
Just my 2 pence :)
Closing this thread, it has run it's course and actually has very little to do with the subject anymore.
If you want to discuss the missing of lib32 (and why you don't want to use KaOS because of that), start a new thread for that.
