KaOS has made the choice to use the Linux kernel as a base (though the Illumos kernel is under constant evaluation, and a future switch is a wish).

There is something you should take a look at. Using their practical experience with Illumos for a desktop OS might make illumos based KaOS more than just a wish.

I only hope the driver issues have been resolved.

    I also hope to contribute as soon as possible... including visual design, website and packaging.

      Hello, my younger me. I hope you'll enjoy some time away from your computer and rest well at night instead of compiling custom real time kernels with dreams of reviving Solaris in the hope of reliving those strange beautiful momements sitting alone in the university lab surrounded by magic Sun SPARC machines wondering about mysterious power they could unleash if I could only learn C and not fall asleep on the keyboard to be greeted by random student in the morning with keyboards marks on my cheeks.       The forum bot is right of course and I'm not sure if this post serves any purpose other then expressing arguably superfluous sentinemt about the wonder of passing time and memories. But then maybe raising and riding horses is just a way to scratch the same itch. @demm

      It's one of those Forest Gump moments, whenever I tell myself or my friends that I have been involved in choosing the name for a Solaris / Linux alternative distro and that the project is still alive and thriving. They look perplexed and mostly don't even know what I mean. I still vividly remember those days.

            Hi there! It's been some time since we spoke 🙂 I listened to a podcast with a concept designer and illustrator I admired at the same time when I delved into the project and this podcast with Craig Mullins brought back good memories... not merely by chronological association, my whole attempt of learning entirely new things and finding new horizons to explore. Feels like I'm in a new wave guided by the same force.

The email address associated with the previous account must have been jenya.gerstmaier on gmail, it's certainly no longer accessible as I moved email service to my own domain. But if you could change the associated email to the current one I could reset the password. I couldn't find a way to dm you here, so have to write it here.

            Eager to try the qt6 iso and experiment with it...

              I can set old username to new email & set new password, but new email can't be used for 2 usernames, so either set a different email for jenya24, or that user needs to be deleted.

                I created a forwarding address for this purpose it - kaos@bl...vision.
                Domain is the same. You can simply use this one for recovery of the old account, I'll reset the password afterwards.
