First, minimal test ISO is uploaded for June stable ISO release

provide the installation log, if you encounter any issue at all

As always, early test ISOs are minimal, very few apps, just a web-browser, file manager, text editor, GUI package manager. The non-free nvidia drivers are included since they are a big part of what needs testing. New on this ISO is the inclusion of the nvidia 390xx driver, so if you have an Nvidia card about 4-7 years old, please help with testing this change.

Besides the usual reason to require a new ISO for large updates, this time a new stable ISO is needed due to a bug in Grub with newer XFS.

KaOS ISOs are not only GTK free but are Qt4 & KDE 4 free too.
This is as pure a Qt 5/Plasma 5 ISO as possible.

Plan is to have Frameworks 5.47.0, KDE Applications 18.04.2, Plasma 5.13.0 and Linux 4.16.14 on the final ISO. If all testing goes well expect the final ISO to be released in 6-7 days

Calamares version used is 3.2. Release Notes page is not fully updated yet, you will see some the text from the March ISO.

The ISO is using packages from the build repo, but that repo is not enabled, so if you decide to install, make sure to add the build epo to your pacman.conf.

To help with testing:

  • Use a GPT partition table on BIOS system (manual partitioning)
  • Use Isowriter to write the test ISO to your USB stick, plan is to remove imagewriter from the repos after this test cycle
  • Use in live mode on as much different hardware as possible
  • If you have an UEFI capable system, check if the ISO boots in both UEFI and legacy BIOS mode, make sure though to turn off secure boot
  • test installs on real hardware are needed, not just vbox
  • check as many partitioning options as possible in the partitioning of Calamares, see if all works and is clear enough
  • test with vbox in Live mode and installed and adjust to full screen or resize to different resolutions

debug packages for Calamares are part of all ISOs, run Calamares with gdb if you encounter errors
provide the installation log, if you encounter any issue at all

You can start Calamares from the Welcome app, or run it with:

sudo calamares -d

The install log will be created in the home directory of the Live user, see ~/installation.log. It is available after the install in the target system in /var/log/installation.log
If run from cli, make sure to pastebin the full output, since no installation.log will be copied then, though that log is more complete.

The new site for testing ISOs is still in use:

On this ISO you will find:
Linux 4.16.14
systemd 238
gcc 7.3.0
Qt 5.11.0
Frameworks 5.47.0
Plasma 5.13.0
KDE Applications 18.04.2
Calamares 3.2.0
Octopi 0.9.0 with sysinfo & cachecleaner tool

Known issues:

  • None at this time

New ISO is uploaded, full version this time. Quite a few bugs were found on the first (minimal) ISO, fixes include:

  • Nouveau driver can't handle QtWebengine application with Mesa 18, the used environment is now adjusted for systems running the nouveau driver
  • Falkon had the Copy drop down function greyed out, patched Qtwebengine fixed that
  • Systems needing the nvidia 390xx driver were not properly detected, hardware-detection includes additional settings now for that driver
  • Octopi showed an unneeded error message due to an upstream change in detecting internet too soon (before wifi is up). That commit is now reverted.
  • Kate is patched for a change in Qt 5.11 that prevented the Quick Show option to properly function

Updates include new mesa, networkmanager, libgcrypt (fixing a severe CVE), kio, patched cups to fix high cpu load in print-manager, iproute, dnsutils and a CVE patch for ktexteditor.
All KaOS tools packages have their translations updated (croeso, welcome, isowriter, calamares). Calamares now includes the final release notes.

If Nvidia 390xx & 396 tests are running successful, then this could be the final ISO in 2-3 days. Help with nvidia tests would be much appreciated.......

It has a super annoying bug in qtwebengine that when view is divided on two parts on loads, it's fixed for 5.11.1 but when you use Falkon it's on every page.

Fresh install on my laptop with nvidia card. No issue at all.
All is cool.

Will post the complete configuration of my laptop later.
I forgot the command line to see it all.

Edit : will use Sysinfo in Octopi šŸ™‚

Monsieurzik Fresh install on my laptop with nvidia card.

What card/driver on your system? Please post the output of inxi -G
I cannot test the latest nvidia drivers, only cards available use legacy 390xx/340xx

This test cycle nvidia 390xx is really a booger.....once again fails on test ISO from June 20, thus a third full test ISO is needed. This one passed all nvidia 390xx tests, finally.
For the rest no real changes since the June 20 ISO, only update used is new pulseaudio and git, other more recent updates in the build repo are not used (no systemd 239 for example).

Iā€™m wrong. Not a NVIDIA but a Radeo card.
    Everything still good.
