Phasing out kf5

This is mostly a reminder for all to run pacman Qm on a regular base on this rolling distribution.
Running that say, once a month, will show you which packages are no longer in the repository (it will also show self-build packages).
Especially at this stage of moving all away from Qt5/kf5, you will notice that quite regularly another kf5 package has been removed.
Example today, tellico, heaptrack, k3b & rkward moved to Qt6/kf6 builds. A few other kf5 based have been rebuild to remove kf5 packages that really don't work on Plasma 6 (kactivities 5 for example), so another batch of kf5 packages are no longer needed or in the repository.

Don't expect kf5 to be completely gone anytime soon, it will probably still be needed this whole year.

Hello, thanks for the tip.

That command lists the following packages on my system:
bluez-firmware 1.2-11
croeso6 2.1-1
khtml 5.115.0-1
kjs 5.115.0-1
kopete 23.08.4-1
samsung-uld-printer 1.00.39_01.17-1
syncthing 1.27.1-1

but I can't understand if I should remove them or not. Samsung drivers and Syncthing are installed from KCP, the all the others are repository-installed packages I think

Whatever you build & installed yourself, is up to you to keep or remove (KCP includes that, not maintained or build by KaOS).
Those that were not build by you, should be removed, since they are no longer maintained, no longer needed & no longer used.
So, all but the last 2 had been removed from the repo.

The year is almost ending, but Qt5/kf5 are still in KaOS.....
The last week quite a few more have been moved to Qt6, so stacks like qscintilla Qt5 based will be removed.
KaOS won't wait for all apps to be ported to Qt6 before removing those. Qt5 has been end of life for years now, those apps that have not started the porting can be considered dead too.
So, plan is to wait for a working Krita Qt6/kf6 port (work has been ongoing upstream since early this year), after that, expect Qt5/kf5 to be removed from KaOS.

Okteta isn't ready also, there is a Kf6 branch which is outdated, there is issue tracking some porting issues

After qt5-script removal okteta doesn't start anymore, it should be reverted or okteta to be removed as well. In the issue above the biggest challenge is porting qt-script to new implementation since some API isn't exist any more.

A few more have been ported to Qt6/kf6 in the last few days, today a first build of Krita 6.0.0 Alpha (Qt6 based) is running locally. This build will stay in the build repo for now, but if testing there shows it is stable, then a decision will have to be made as to when to fully remove Qt5 and all that still depend on it. Opinions needed/welcomed.

For small number of applications (like Keepassxc, Krita, other application with self release cycle not a KDE standard one) a possible option is flatpak.

As you might have read from the May ISO testing thread, default installs will now be Qt5/kf5 free. That means Plasma is now built without any kf5 support, so the integration of Qt5 apps will start to suffer.
Removal of Qt5 based app, is speeding up a bit, Krita kf6 based is now moved to all users, a few more were ported to kf6 (calligraplan for example).
During this phase it is advised to regularly run pacman -Qm so you won't have a bunch of Qt5 based, broken apps on your system that are not maintained.

Today is finally the day that kf5 can be removed from the KaOS repositories.
A few packages were moved to now being kf6 based (ktouch, okteteta, kqtquickcharts, grub2-editor). Quassel no longer is build with KDE support, and a few more still Qt5-kf5 based have been removed. Those include trojita (no work at all toward Qt6, last release over 9 years ago), cervisia (no working kf6 port, cvs itself is pretty much dead) and umbrello (no kf6 port, will be re-added once it is kf6 based, still in active development).

So for those with older installs, it is really important to check with pacman -Qm for all what can and should be removed.

Not yet.
For example, hplip & openshot still depend on PyQt5, Quassel is still in the repo's, all kf5 depends have been removed, but still needs qt5-base & multimedia.
But for many users, yes, it will be possible to remove all of Qt5.
Just run (or for whatever Qt5 package you have a question about) pacman -Sii qt5-base.
