Hello I just came across with KaOS distribution and I love it, it is sleek, fast and its KDE!... but I have a little problem.

I managed to create a virtual machine from the kaos 2014-06 iso, but I cannot update/install new packages into it because it always gets "timeout" errors. I can browse the repositories using qupzilla (very slowly but I can)

I changed the order of the mirror servers and tried every possible combination of the three default mirrors in the mirror.list configuration file, but none of them is fast enough (actually I think the vbox internet connection is not fast enough to reach any of the mirrors, I also tried two different configurations of the vbox connection NAT, bridged)

I currently have SolydK as my main OS, but I would like to have KaOS instead. I cannot change it until I could be able to update/upgrade and install new programs.

Do you have any advice?

P.s. sorry for the bad english :(

Network info needed:

inxi -N

Tried disabling ipv6 in networkmanager?

IPV6 i is diabled.

I also changed the timeouts in the "network settings" everything up to 60 secconds. Also disabled the firewall (nothing worked disabling it)

here are the results of the inxi -N

[douglas@kaos ~]$ inxi -N

Network: Card: Intel 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: e1000

Whye even changing the timeouts of the network connection it still waits 10 seconds for a connection?

[douglas@kaos ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu

I ran a speedtest from the command line, I do not think it is about speed I think it is about resolving DNS, I already added the primary DNS of the host connection to the vbox connection.

[douglas@kaos Downloads]$ speedtest-cli --server 2561

Just for a test, can you pacman -Syu while running the Live ISO (not being in vbox)?

Hi,

I started the kaos live iso from VBox and it works like a charm :)

[live@localhost ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu

Solved it!

I realized that my internet service was the problem, today I went into the VPN of the company I work and started Kaos after that, magically it notified me about the updates and actually I could get the updates.

I called my ISP and told them about the issue, they reset my modem and voila, I was able to get the updates without my company's VPN.

I hope I did not waste your precious time demm, thanks for your advice

Best regards
