  • In Wine

I have a similar problem. I installed wine and mono, too (I'm not sure if wine depends or not on mono) and I tried to install Search Everything, the 64 bit version of the windows program. The installation didn't even start. In another distros it works.

I wonder if anybody succeded in installing something with this borked version of wine.

  • I tried to use KFind, but there is something strange. For example, I'll try to find a file from an external drive. The drive's location is /run/media/"user"/"the drive name". But if I try to set the location in KFind, I can only choose locations from the home folder. I can select /run/media/"user", but that's it, I cannot select anything else past the user's name, like there is no external drive mounted.
Something is wrong, here, and I think that this is why I cannot use Dolphin to search files in external drives.

  • Using KaOS I constantly feel the lack of good search program. Yes, Plasma search works beautifully for the files from your home folder, but I have lots of files to search stored in another partitions (and I need to search them all simultaneously). At some moment I tried to solve the problem by indexing all those partitions in baloo, but after that it appeared another problem: baloo is re-indexing the files from those partitions always after each restart. And it also uses too much disk space for my taste.
When using Ubuntu or Arch, I use fsearch, in Windows, "Everything search engine". Could somebody package fsearch for our community, please? It's a great program and I think it would be best that fsearch were included in the default apps in KaOS and every other linux distro.
Also, in KaOS a simple search in another partitions using Dolphin's "find" command still doesn't work.

  • demm I installed the bumblebee driver, now everything is ok. Thank you.

  • After updating to plasma 5.13 the display is flickering before entering a plasma session. The screen is flickering, too, when I click on the menu and I sometimes see some very quick artefacts all the time when minimizing/maximizing programs.
I am very disappointed by this plasma version. I read that other distros had problems with it, too, and now I understand why did you postpone so much the change to 5.13.
    Is there anything to do?

  • After the last two updates, my wifi doesn't connect automatically. I had the same problem a few months ago, but disappeared after another update.
It's not a big deal, but I like to think about my KaOS system as being close to perfection 🙂

  • Hello
I tried to upgrade my system. Here is why it can't be done:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    util-linux: /usr/share/man/man8/rfkill.8.gz exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • demm It's almost a month since I have this problem and it't still not solved. It's sad to see such lack of competence and professionalism in the linux world.

  • demm Thanks, this recommendation solved my problem. The look is not so terrible, by the way 🙂

  • Hi all
Every time I start LibreOffice, there is an increase in CPU usage - about 12-13% (I have an i7, 4 cores CPU). I don't know if it's relevant, but I also had a problem updating KaOS because of LibreOffice, more precisely, because of the breeze dark set of LibreOffice icons - I solved it deleting the icons and then copying it again in the icon folder. What could explain this strange behavior (high CPU)?
    Thanks.

    • demm replied to this.
    • Thanks for your reply. Interestingly, the java plugin works in Firefox (the actualized version) in all the other linux distributions I have (Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based, Manjaro, Fedora) and in Windows, too.

    • Thank you both for the answers. I discovered a way to make search work in dolphin: clicking on "Find" opens a few tabs with some settings for the search options, and then I select "Everywhere" instead of "From here (user)" , as bvbfan suggested. I guess that in another KDE distros the default setting is Everywhere, and this is why I was confused about not getting the results I wanted.
      All is clear, now.

    • Sorry, I don't understand your recommendation. Let's talk about a specific user case: I want to find a specific pdf file in a large folder on a specific partition (not "home"). If I simply apply your method, I cannot find anything - and it doesn't make sense, because the "search" should be directed to the specific folder where I operate the search.

    • Hello, again. I want to draw the attention on the fact that the java plugin for browsers doesn't work. I play a browser game called managerzone, which has a football/hockey simulator functionning as a java applet. It works on every other linux OS which has icedwebtea in repositories, except KaOS.

    • Hello. What should I do to make Dolphin "search" function work? I guess it's a problem with accessing files in partitions separate from "home". In the settings, all I could find is the possibility to exclude locations (partitions) from search, not how to enable it in these locations.
      Thanks.
